Who we are

One group, seven licensed businesses

Mzansi Life & Wealth Group Holdings Limited is a JSE-listed financial services group offering banking, life assurance, medical scheme administration, short-term insurance, financial planning and investment management. We operate through seven separately licensed divisions — Mzansi Bank, Mzansi Life, Mzansi Health Administrators, Mzansi Insure, Mzansi Advisors, Mzansi Wealth and Mzansi Investments — each regulated by the appropriate authority for what it does.

Headquartered in Sandton, Gauteng, we serve individuals, businesses and institutions across South Africa through more than 210 branches and adviser practices, including flagship offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha.

Our story

From a burial society to a listed group

Nearly seven decades of growth, without losing sight of why we started.

1958

Founded in Durban as Mzansi Mutual Assurance Society, a member-owned burial and life mutual society.

1978

Diversifies into short-term insurance, launching Mzansi Insure to cover fire, motor and household risk.

1993

Establishes Mzansi Health Administrators to administer the newly formed, member-owned Mzansi Health Medical Scheme.

2001

Demutualises and converts to a public company, forming Mzansi Life & Wealth Group Holdings Limited; lists on the JSE under ticker MLW.

2006

Obtains a banking licence and launches Mzansi Bank, moving into transactional banking, home loans and vehicle finance.

2014

Consolidates financial planning and advice into Mzansi Advisors, launches the investment platform today operated by Mzansi Wealth as Prism, and establishes Mzansi Investments as the Group's discretionary asset manager.

Present day

Group head office in Sandton, with a national branch and adviser-practice footprint spanning every major province.

Our strategy

How the seven businesses work together

Each division has its own strategy, but four themes run across the whole Group.

01

One client, seven relationships

Mzansi Bank refers clients into Mzansi Advisors' advice relationship, which in turn draws on Life, Health, Insure, Wealth and Investments — a single client view, not separate sales efforts.

02

Compete on our own turf

Prism, the open-architecture investment platform operated by Mzansi Wealth, competes for business from independent advisers, while Mzansi Advisors deepens relationships with its own tied clients — two growth engines feeding Mzansi Investments, the Group's asset manager.

03

Grow distribution, not just products

Alongside our employed adviser force, the Mzansi Advisors Franchise network lets experienced advisers build their own practices under our licence — expanding our reach without expanding headcount.

04

Protect the heritage, build the future

Our funeral insurance heritage book anchors the Mass & Foundation segment that founded this Group in 1958, while Advisors, Wealth and Investments grow our presence in the affluent and institutional market.

Purpose & values

Why we're here

“Rooted here. Built for your future.”

Integrity

We disclose how we're paid and where our advice is weighted, every time.

Ubuntu

Founded on families looking after each other — a principle that still shapes how we serve clients.

Accountability

Every division is separately licensed and answers to its own regulator, not just to the Group.

Progress

From a 1958 burial society to a banking licence and an open investment platform — we keep building.

Community

Corporate Social Investment

An extension of the principle this Group was founded on in 1958 — families and communities looking after each other.

Financial literacy in schools. Advisers at Mzansi Advisors run free financial literacy workshops in under-resourced high schools, covering budgeting, saving and understanding credit.

Bursaries for actuarial and finance students. The Mzansi Bursary Programme funds tertiary study for students pursuing actuarial science, finance and IT, with a guaranteed graduate placement interview.

Funeral support fund. A small annual fund, tracing directly back to our 1958 origins as a burial society, provides emergency funeral cost assistance to community members with no cover at all.
