Mzansi Advisors

“Your financial life, planned properly.”

The Group's financial planning and advice business — the team most Associate Advisors actually work for.

Overview

What Mzansi Advisors does

Mzansi Advisors is the financial planning and advice business of the Group. Its qualified financial advisers sit down with clients, understand their personal or business circumstances, and build a plan that may draw on life cover from Mzansi Life, medical cover from Mzansi Health, short-term insurance from Mzansi Insure, or investments through Mzansi Wealth and Mzansi Investments.

Advisers work from Mzansi branches and dedicated offices nationally, as well as through the Mzansi Advisors Franchise network, which allows experienced advisers to run their own practice under the Mzansi name. Because its advice is weighted mainly toward the Group's own products, Mzansi Advisors always discloses this clearly to clients upfront, as South African law requires.

How advice works

The same six-step process, every time

Whether it's your first policy or a full business succession plan, every Mzansi Advisors client goes through the same process.

  • 1. Fact Find. We start by understanding your full financial picture: income, debts, dependants, goals and risk appetite.

  • 2. Analyse. We assess where you stand today against your goals, and identify any gaps in cover or savings.

  • 3. Recommend. We put together a recommendation, drawing on products from across the Mzansi Group where they fit your needs.

  • 4. Disclose. Before you commit to anything, we disclose exactly what we're recommending, why, and any relationship or fee involved.

  • 5. Implement. We handle the paperwork and setup, coordinating across Mzansi Bank, Life, Health, Insure and Wealth as needed.

  • 6. Review. We check in at least once a year, or after any major life or business change, to keep your plan on track.

Two ways to work with an adviser. Most Mzansi Advisors advisers are employed directly by the Group, but experienced advisers can also run their own practice through the Mzansi Advisors Franchise network, operating under the same licence and disclosure standards. Clients who specifically want fully independent advice from day one can instead be referred to Mzansi Advice Partners, a separately managed advice business in which the Group holds only a minority stake.
Our structure

Three teams, matched to three kinds of client

Real South African composite groups typically segment their advice force by client income and complexity rather than running one undifferentiated pool. Mzansi Advisors is built the same way: three client-facing teams, each matched to a different segment, plus the people and partners who support them.

Planning & Advice

A ~145-person team led by Themba Khumalo handles fact-find processing, portfolio construction and compliance-ready documentation for both retail units — and sets the advice standards every adviser follows, including oversight of the Associate Advisor Programme itself.

The Franchise Network

Beyond our employed advisers, the Mzansi Advisors Franchise lets experienced advisers build their own practice under the Mzansi name, investing their own capital and employing their own Franchise Agents. The network mirrors our two-market structure:

Franchise tierPrincipalsAgents
Mass & Foundation Franchise~15~50
Personal & Affluent Franchise~35~150
Total~50~200

Franchise Principals and Agents are independent business owners operating under Mzansi Advisors' licence — not Mzansi employees.

How we fit together

We're the connective tissue of the Group

  • Referrals flow in from Mzansi Bank. When a banker spots a client who could benefit from advice, they introduce them to us — always with the client's knowledge and consent.

  • We recommend, other businesses deliver. A Mzansi Advisors plan may draw on Mzansi Life for risk cover, Mzansi Health for medical cover, Mzansi Insure for short-term insurance, or Mzansi Wealth and Mzansi Investments for savings and investing — we coordinate, they underwrite and manage.

  • We hand over to Mzansi Private Clients for complex wealth. When a client's needs outgrow standard advice — large discretionary portfolios, trusts, family offices — we bring in Mzansi Private Clients (within Mzansi Wealth), while keeping the relationship and accountability ourselves.

  • We distribute the Mzansi Umbrella Retirement Fund. Our Corporate & Institutional Consulting unit sells and services employer participation in the Group-sponsored Mzansi Umbrella Retirement Fund — administered by Mzansi Wealth, invested by Mzansi Investments, and risk-underwritten by Mzansi Life. The Fund itself is independently governed by its own Board of Trustees, not controlled by any single Mzansi entity.

  • Reviews count toward Mzansi Rewards. Attending your annual financial plan review earns points and keeps your whole plan on track.

Scope & size

Mzansi Advisors, by the numbers

Our strategy

Why we're built this way

  • Segment by income, not by product. Matching adviser seniority and advice depth to what each client segment actually needs, rather than running one undifferentiated pool.

  • Specialise in advice, refer the rest. Our advisers focus on Long-Term Insurance and Investment/Retirement advice, referring short-term and medical needs to the specialists at Mzansi Insure and Mzansi Health.

  • A visible career path. Associate Advisor → Financial Advisor → Senior Financial Planner → Franchise Agent or Principal — a real progression, not just a job.

  • Grow distribution without growing headcount. The Franchise model lets experienced advisers invest their own capital to extend our reach.

  • Deepen relationships, not just client count. Wallet share and Mzansi Rewards both reward a genuinely complete financial plan over selling one product and moving on.

  • Coordinate at the top of the book. For our highest-value clients, a Joint Relationship Team brings in a Mzansi Bank banker and a Mzansi Wealth portfolio manager alongside the adviser.
